Greetings from the
President’s Roundhouse
As
I am sure everyone knows, the next meeting will be held at the Shirey’s (my
house) since we have lost our previous meeting place. We are going to have to
look at obtaining a new meeting place. Hopefully we can find somewhere that
will be convenient for most people. I have often wondered about the possibility
of having the meeting at a club member’s home on a Saturday, and coincide this
with an operating session at a member layout, or having some kind of workshop
to help members build or repair items for their own layouts. I for one would
not be opposed to this idea.
For
the upcoming meeting/workshop, I would like to invite everyone to participate.
I think that this module workshop will give us a chance to get the modules in
good working order for upcoming events, and also to take a look at the ground
track setups.
I
can provide a large enough floor space so that the ground track can be set up
and we can try different layout schemes to see what we can accomplish. This
way, we should know what our ground track layout would be based on the size of
the display area ahead of time, and be able to put the layout together without
having to bend and kink the track to make it fit. We can make any specialty
items (track risers for over/under layouts) and electrical connections for any
sidings that are put in.
So,
be thinking about these items……Until the meeting….Donnie
Bill Thiets
We were all shocked and saddened with the news of Bill’s death.
Bill, while brand new to our club, was an eager and willing participant who
looked forward to becoming involved in the Club’s many activities. Bill was a
long time model railroader and had an extensive collection of Lionel Trains. We
will miss him and extend our sympathies to his family. His memorial service will be 11am Saturday,
January 17th, at

The railroad Crossing
Can’t tell you much about the thing, ’twas done so powerfull
quick, but pears to me I got a most outlandish heavy lick! It broke my leg, and
tore my sculp, and jerked my arm most out; but have a seat, stranger, and I’ll
tell you how it come about.
Y’see, I was drivin’ down the road with that ‘ere team o’mine,
a-haulin’ a load o’corn for Ebenezer Cline, and drivin’ slow – about a day or
so before, the off-horse run a splinter in his foot and made it sore.
You know where the railroad cuts across the lot at Martin’s hole?
Well thar I seed a great big sign stuck high up on a pole. I was mighty curious
to find out what it said, so I stopped the horses on the track, and read.
I ain’t no scholar, recollect, and so I had to spell, I started
kind o’cautious-like, with R-A-I and L. That spelled RAIL, just as clear as
mud. R-O-A-D was ROAD, asumtum RAILROAD was the word, and that ‘ere much I
knowed.
C-R-O, and double S, with I-N-G to boot spelled CROSSING just as
plain as Noah Webster dared to do it! L-
double O-K was look, and I was a-lookin’ all the time and spellin’ like a book.
O-U-T was OUT, and there it was LOOK OUT! F-O-R and T-H-E ‘twas then LOOK OUT FOR THE.
And when I tried the next word, it commenced with T-R-A
I got this fur when, suddenly, there came an awful whack! A
thousand fiery thunderbolts just scooped me off the track. The horses went to
Davy Jones, the wagon went to smash, and I was h’isted seven yards above the
tallest ash!
Now, ‘taint the pain, and it t’ain’t the loss of that ‘ere team of
mine, but stranger, how I’d like to know that rest of that ‘ere sign!
