2008 TGRRC Christmas Party

Zowie, it’s getting close to that time of year when we get together for our traditional Christmas gathering. Lots of fun, good cheer, great food and libation, and a chance to go home with a brand new railroad goodie.  Barb and Kathy report that the club will be providing appetizers and there will be a cash bar. The date, Sunday December 14th. The place, Charleston’s Restaurant , 3627 S. Peoria, Tulsa. The time, 4:30pm with dinner selections at 5:00pm. Each party will be responsible for the cost of their own meal and a $10 advance deposit will be applied toward your meal cost. There will be great door prizes, and if you wish to participate in the annual “bring a gift, get a gift” exchange, please bring a wrapped railroad related gift valued from $15 to $20.  There will be the annual Best Christmas Tie contest and a great chance to get to better know your fellow club members. For questions or more information contact:

Greetings from the President’s Roundhouse

It’s hard to imagine that the holiday season is knocking at the door. We are already planning the club Christmas party, and I hope everyone is thinking about attending the festivities this year. Also, something different from our normal Christmas parade activities this year is the setup of our ground track layout for the benefit of children at a local children’s hospital. I hope this goes through, as we have a couple of members who are contacting the local area hospitals to see if this could be accomplished. I think that this would not only benefit the kids, but I am sure that the club would get much publicity from local newspaper and television stations as it would be a welcome diversion from the normal type of news (all of the bad stuff) during the holiday season.

Another note, we have not had many programs at our last few club meetings. We need people to step up and volunteer to help with the programs and show and tell sections of the meetings. If you have anything that you would like to discuss about seeing as a program or workshop during the meeting, please let me know, and we can work out something to have a program or workshop as needed. The meetings are going to be too short if we just have a business meeting without any kind of program. Input is needed from the attendees as to what kind of programs they would like to see.

Until the meeting….Donnie

TGRRC Minutes:  October 2008

The minutes of the September meeting were approved as written as was the Treasurer’s Report.

Old Business

Bixby Show – Joe Salamon reported that the Bixby show was a success. The new trailer is “definitely a keeper”.

Web Site – Joe Salamon will be receiving all the information in order to get the web site up.

Children’s Hospital – The hospital administration has contacted the club that due to construction it will not be possible to put up a Christmas display. Bill Black will contact the other hospitals and facilities to try and secure a place. We need to ascertain the expectations for the length of time to keep the display up and what type of security we can expect from the site. Joe mentioned that he has an 8’ x 14’ display that could be used if needed.

Christmas Party – Kathy Klawitter reported that the Christmas Party will be held at Charleston’s Restaurant (on Peoria in Brookside) December 14th (Sunday) at 4:30pm. You will be able to order your dinner from the menu. The club needs a $10.00 deposit per person to let them know how many will be attending. There will be door prizes and possibly the Christmas Tie contest. We will not sell raffle tickets this year as we have started too late. It was decided that members in good standing will put their names in “the hat” and names will be drawn for the prizes. $350 has been allocated for the prizes.

Great Train Show – Donnie received the completed application from Jim for the show scheduled for March ’09. The club will occupy a 50’ x 50’ space.

New Business

Bob Gardine reported on structuring of the interior of the new ground track trailer. The spare tire needs to be mounted on the rear as it takes up too much room on the floor. He has inventoried everything that will be kept in the trailer. He has fastened 2’x 2’s on the right side of the trailer to hold the carpet when rolled in place. Shelves on the left side will hold containers for plastic houses, the houses and containers will be numbered for easy packing. Boxes of track will store underneath the shelves and an inventory sheet inside the door with the contents of the trailer. Monies allocated for the make-over of the trailer: $200 for boxes and $50 for the trailer.

Other Needs – a model dolly (or two). Four Power supplies need blowers. Additional monies for the ground track trailer; motion made, seconded, and approved to give Bob an additional $50 needed for the trailer. Additional keys are also  needed. The Club needs another transformer, Bob will check out prices.

An Auction – was held on a tower, and a train. Tower sold for $5 and the train for$12.

November Meeting – will be on the 20th, a week early, due to the Thanksgiving Holiday falling on the last Thursday of the month. It will be the last meeting of 2008 and we will resume meeting on the last Thursday in January, the 29th.

Editors FYI

I just received confirmation from the Great Train Expo that our application has been accepted for the Tulsa show, March 7th & 8th for a 50’ x 50’ area, and that it will include a $150 honorarium. Actual location of our site will be posted on their web site two weeks before the show.
