Greetings from the Presidents Round House....

Hi all…been very busy with the new house construction. Glad to say that we now have something that looks like a house. The framing is just about complete, so on to the next step, hopefully a roof at some point. Have steel for the building at the site, but no building as of yet.

April 26th is rapidly approaching, so is anyone ready for the display of their models and structures? We plan on setting up a display table and area so that items that you would like to show off can be displayed for the public to see. Also the garden fest in Okmulgee will be the next Saturday, May 3rd, and Jim has informed us that there will be a place to display items at this show as well.

And as from last month, keep in mind that we need some ideas for club show and tell and for workshops. If you have an item that you would like to show off and would like to bring it to the club meeting, please do so. If you have an area of “expertise” and would like to share with the other club members, let us know and we can get a workshop put together. Who knows, it might just be the item that other club members are missing on their layout and would like to see just how it is done. Until the meeting…. Donnie

New Products

G Scale Graphics, producers of some fine vinyl transfers, has several new items on the market. You may have read about their Critter Controls for battery powered units in the GR magazine that allows control with out the use of transmitters and receivers. Two units, a Basic, that allows for smooth starts and stops with runs at a preset speed, and an Enhanced, that allows for automated and selectable stop times, with returns to preset speeds. Both units are available for under $100 and eliminate the need for costly RC units for those who want to power up their battery powered equipment and watch ‘em run. Also available is their new Rail-Bot that allows small units like Egg Liners and Speedsters to run with the big trains without getting run over by automatically adjusting their speed via infra red sensors mounted front and rear. It sells for $139. You can check out G Scale Graphics at

www.GScaleGraphics.net

Special Note

If you plan to have items on display at Okmulgee’s Bloom Fest please let me know so I can make up tent cards. Info needed: Item Name, Kit Built, Kit Bashed or Scratch Built, Your Name and Town. You can either bring you item(s) with you on the morning of May 3rd, or bring them to this months meeting on the 24th and I’ll put them on display for you. Thanks, Jim

Minutes March 2008

The meeting was called to order by Vice President Vernon Guess.  The Minutes of the February 2008 meeting were approved.  The Treasurer’s Report was given.  Visitor Steven Guthrie was welcomed.

Old Business

Trailer jack.  Vernon was able to purchase a trailer jack for under $100.  The club had approved $150.

Trailer organization.  Bob Gardine suggested installing additional shelves along the sides of the trailer for transformers, houses, etc.  He suggested the rolling racks needed for loading modules could be built in-house with angle iron.  Jim Martin mentioned that Skip’s drawbridge still needs to go into the trailer.

Ground track trailer.  We will begin looking for a separate trailer for the ground track and helix.  Suggested price $500.  Club members are encouraged to send information to Vernon about trailers that are for sale.

Annual tour, Saturday May 31.  Tour hosts to-date include Bill Black, Bob and Sheila Buttram, Bob Gardine, Vernon Guess, and Joe Salamon.  Hours:  9 AM to 4 PM, except Bob Gardine who will run 9 AM to 6 PM.  Tour flyers will be available to hand out at up-coming shows.  We will raffle Skip’s Lionel Express (mint in box).

Dues.  Reminder, dues are due.  $20 individual membership.  $30 family membership.

Website.  We have purchased the domain name (www.tulsagardenrailroadclub.org) and the website is under construction.  We are waiting for backup disks from the old website.

Open House.  Bob and Jonna Gardine will host an Open House on Memorial Weekend on Saturday and Monday (closed on Sunday).  Visitors are encouraged to bring trains to run.

Bixby Train Show, Saturday April 5, 9 AM to 3 PM.  Vern and Vernon Guess will not have their modules at the train show.  Instead, Vernon will borrow the club’s ground track.  Volunteers include Joe Salamon, Sky Sharp and Rob Hardgrove.  Set up is Friday from 4 PM to 6 PM.  Jim plans to have some of Skip’s HO collection for sale at the Bixby show.

Jenks Herb Fest, Saturday April 26.  Vernon will have tables and a pop-up tent available.

Okmulgee in Bloom, Saturday May 3.  There will be window space available to display model contest entries.  Jim will have a display explaining the difference between scratch-built, kit-built and kit bashing.  (Note:  May 3 is Jim Martin’s birthday –“a major birthday.”)

Caps and carry-bags.  We are making arrangements to have caps (both green and tan), as well as canvas tote bags, silk-screened with the club logo.
