Greetings from the Presidents Round House....

The annual Jenks herb fest is coming up on April 26th and this year we have decided to add something to it in the way of showing off some of our handiwork in the form of models or structures that have been crafted by our club members. We will set up a display table and area so that items that you would like to show off can be displayed for the public to see. This will give people a chance to see that our club is not only about running trains, but that there is a lot more involvement into garden railroading. So bring your special item that you have put much hard and dedicated work into and show it off. This would not only be limited to models or structures, but can include photos from the photography buffs out there, or maybe some memorabilia that you may collect. Keep in mind that we need some ideas for club show and tell and for workshops.

If you have an item that you would like to show off and would like to bring it to the club meeting, please do so. If you have an area of “expertise” and would like to share with the other club members, let us know and we can get a workshop put together. Who knows, it might just be the item that other club members are missing on their layout and would like to see just how it is done.

Until the meeting….Donnie

Minutes:  February 2008

The meeting was called to order by President Donnie Shirey.  The Minutes of the January 2008 meeting were accepted.  The Treasurer was not in attendance, so the Treasurer’s Report was not given except to report the balance of the checking and savings accounts.

Old Business

As was decided at the last meeting, we have opened a savings account and transferred $1500 into it from our checking account. he club membership approved the payment of $118 for two years for a new website with a domain name of tulsagardenrailroadclub.org

Bob Gardine will evaluate the trailer and report back with suggestions on how to better organize the trailer.  It was agreed that we need to remove Christmas trains and other seasonal items and that we need to install additional shelves along the sides of the trailer and that we need rolling racks for loading modules.  If we are hauling the trailer to ground track-only events, we need to ensure the ground track and accessories are stored at the back of the trailer for easy access.            We need to decide when and where to hold a module workshop.  A special thank you to Jim Martin for rebuilding Skip’s drawbridge.

Harry Wolohon volunteered to provide a collection box for donations at ground track and module events.

It was agreed to postpone the model contest until after the tour, but members are encouraged to display their contest entries at events like the Herb Fest or the annual tour to show another dimension of our club.

It was decided to hold the annual tour on Saturday May 31.  Vernon Guess will be the event coordinator.  Tour hosts to date include:  Bill Black, Bob and Sheila Buttram, Bob Gardine, Vernon Guess, and Joe Salamon.

Reminder:  Bob and Jonna Gardine will host an Open House Memorial Weekend on Saturday and Monday.  Visitors are encouraged to bring trains to run.

                Reminder:  Dues are due.

New Business

Jenks Herb Fest, Saturday April 26.  It was suggested that we have live steam on an inside track.

Okmulgee in Bloom, Saturday May 3.  Exhibits will focus on gardens, gardening tools, herbs, etc.  Exhibitors will include Sears and garden implement dealers.

We need to find new venues, particularly in light of the cancellation of the Claremore Home and Garden Show and our non-participation in the Tulsa H&G Show.

Vernon has tables and 10x10 pop-up tents that can be used at outdoor events.

We are waiting to hear the cost of silk screening the canvas tote bags with the TGRRC logo, and we will price the bags accordingly.

Ludwig is attempting to repair our Thomas the Tank engine, and he strongly encourages regular maintenance!

It has been suggested that the club have an annual directory that includes photos of the club members.  A decision will be made at a later date.

Joe suggested that we have a building inside each loop of the eggliner helix.  The two buildings could be connected by an elevated walkway.  Is anyone able to fashion this from wood or styrofoam?  Think “model contest.”

Ludwig has offered to donate a prize to be awarded to the “Favorite Model” in our model contest.

If anyone has train whistle sounds on a CD, please contact Joe.

Club members are encouraged to provide photos to Jim Martin for the Railmail and to Cindy Whitton for the digital photo frame.

Show and Tell:  Cindy Whitton brought a digital photo frame on which she had loaded several hundred photos of club layouts.  The electronic frame slowly sequences through the digital photos.  Ludwig displayed a number of Accucrafts freight cars that he purchased at their year end sale and has them available at a 50% discount.

Program:  The planned program by Southwood Nursery was cancelled due to illness of the presenter.  The substitute program by Donnie was also cancelled due to Donnie’s Airwire system being packed and stored and unavailable.
