Greetings from the Presidents Round
House....
Another month
gone by, days are starting to get longer (a little bit). Soon it will be time
to think about getting the locomotives and rolling stock in shape for this
years many miles of running (ha). A good topic for an upcoming club meeting for
show and tell or for a presentation would be what is good for routine
maintenance or to return items back to operational condition after being stored
during the winter months or maybe even longer. That’s something to think about
for someone to put on a demonstration/presentation at a club meeting.
The annual
Jenks herb fest will be just around the corner (April 26th) and we
have been invited back to this event. In addition, we have an invite to
I would like
to take this opportunity to thank Vernon Guess for stepping in for me during
last months meeting. Due to the weather and having to postpone it for a week, I
already had another commitment for that Thursday, and

Garden Railroad Pull Out Plans
Yours truly
tried his hand at two of the GR plans, the 1st was the plans for a
crane, but instead of doing the scratch built concept, I used left over parts including
the cab of a Bachmann 10 wheeler. That was added to a 20’ flat car and the boom
was constructed of various sized pieces of pine. I used Ozark pulleys and kite
string blackened with a magic marker for the cables. An old refrigerator magnet
was used to hold the scrap.

The 2nd, was an attempt at duplicating a tugboat via GR’s pull out plans, which if I we’re to do it again, would
use wood other than balsa as called for in the plans. I wanted to enlarge the
plans making the bout 21” long instead of 19” but our local copy shop could
only copy them as is. I had hoped to “power’ this model for use in the pond but
interior space was critical and I opted for a static model which I plan to
incorporate in a module.

Minutes: January 2008
The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Vernon
Guess. Guests were welcomed: Rob and Jeannie Hardgrove
and James and Sonya Bennett. The Minutes
of the November 2007 meeting were accepted.
The Treasurer’s Report was given.
Old Business
Great Train Show, December 2007 – The train show was not
well attended due to the weather. The
new leg system worked well but needs slight modifications and T-nuts are needed
on the bottom of the legs for leveling.
Christmas Parades -- Parade trophies were on display at the
meeting: A third-place plaque from
Wagoner and a trophy from Sand Springs for “Best Use of Lighting.”
Christmas Party – This year’s annual party was held at Ludger’s in early December.
Next year, we might opt for a Christmas Open House instead of going to
an expensive restaurant.
New Business
An officer’s meeting was held in January. Many of the following subjects were
discussed: We will open a savings
account and transfer $1500 from checking to savings for a Rainy Day Fund. This represents an amount equal to our
typical annual expenses.
It was agreed that we need a new website, one that is more
accessible to club members and others interested in TGRRC.
Bob Gardine volunteered to
organize the trailer. We will look for a small trailer for the ground track
group – for hauling and storing ground track and the eggliner
loop.
Our modules need work.
We need quality not quantity. At
a later date, we will decide when and where to hold a module workshop, whether
we want backdrops, whether we want to add a water feature, and what other
improvements we can make.
It was suggested that we accept donations at community
events and have a sign informing contributors how the funds will be used.
Model contest – Is there any interest? The suggested date in April conflicts with
the National Convention. Further
discussion will be held at a later date.
The club members approved the purchase of a spare tire and
jack for the club’s trailer. The jack
will be mounted and locked on the trailer.
Bob and Jonna Gardine
will host an Open House Memorial Weekend on Saturday and Monday. Visitors are encouraged to bring trains to
run. 10-ft radius curves. 560 feet of track.
Track power.
Vernon Guess hopes to hold an Open House in May. (Their baby is due in June.) Vernon Guess
volunteered to be the event coordinator for the June tour. Dates being considered for the tour are May
31 or June 7. Further discussion will be
held.
It was suggested that if we want to include a night event on
our tour, we might want to hold the tour before June, when it gets dark
earlier. Bob Gardine, Joe Salamon
and Bill Black volunteered at the meeting to be on the June tour. Tour hosts
would like to see the other tour layouts, so club members are encouraged to
hold an open house before or after the tour.
Reminder: Dues are
due.
Cindy Whitton needs digital photos
of club layouts. She plans to bring to
community events a digital frame on which several hundred pictures can be
shown.
Rob and Jeannie Hardgrove joined
the club at tonight’s meeting. Welcome
aboard!
